WHAT IS CRANIAL OSTEOPATHY?
This approach applies Osteopathic principles to the treatment of the whole body, including the head. The body has amazing powers of healing and regeneration. Cranial Osteopathy works with the forces of growth and development to guide the body back to its healthy function. These forces are at their most vigorous in the early years, so babies and children respond very rapidly to treatment.
In a research study conducted by Clive Hayden into the effects of cranial osteopathic treatment on babies, some parents perceived the following changes in their children’s behaviour: Reduced colicky crying, improved sleep, less unsettled irritable behavior, and increased quiet happy spells.
Osteopaths are highly skilled and undergo a minimum of 4 years of training. Gentle osteopathic techniques are perfectly safe at most stages of pregnancy. The Cranial Osteopathic approach is a particularly gentle way of working with the body’s own natural mechanism for releasing and rebalancing tensions, without force. Osteopathy can help with easing some of the physical discomforts of pregnancy and preparing for the demands of labour.
Cranial Osteopathy also has much to offer and can help with health problems that tend to accompany our advancing years. Many conditions causing stiffness, pain, and disability can be improved with carefully applied osteopathic treatment..
